Pdf Summary
In the ASAP LIVE 2022 session on Thyroid Disorders, various topics were discussed. In the first case, a 62-year-old woman with subclinical hyperthyroidism and multiple areas of focal increased and suppressed uptake on a radioactive iodine scan was presented. The best next step in management was determined to be observation, as the patient had no indications for treatment at that time.

The second case involved a 24-year-old pregnant woman who had abnormal thyroid function tests. She was diagnosed with gestational transient thyrotoxicosis, which is a self-limited condition that does not require intervention.

In the third case, a 34-year-old woman had a nontoxic solitary nodule and multinodular goiter. A radioiodine uptake and scan was recommended to determine if a biopsy was necessary.

The fourth case focused on fine-needle aspiration/cytology and genetic test interpretation for a patient with a suspicious thyroid nodule. The importance of molecular testing for thyroid nodules that have indeterminate cytologic findings was highlighted.

In the fifth case, a patient with thyroid cancer who had undergone total thyroidectomy and central neck dissection was discussed. The patient had RAI-refractory disease, and the most appropriate next step was to continue active surveillance.

The sixth case involved a patient with medullary thyroid carcinoma and a positive RET codon A883F mutation. The presence of mucosal neuromas was likely to be found on further evaluation.

The seventh and final case presented a patient with thyroid storm. The appropriate treatment options included a β-blocker, propylthiouracil, and corticosteroids. However, aspirin should be avoided in the treatment of thyroid storm.

Overall, the session covered a range of thyroid disorders and provided insights into their management and treatment options.
